TrackChanges v1.2: Enhanced Privacy for Google Sheets & Date Handling Improvements

We're excited to announce TrackChanges v1.2, bringing important improvements to both privacy and reliability. This update focuses on enhancing how we handle Google Sheets integration and fixes some key date-related issues.

🔒 Enhanced Privacy for Google Sheets

More Granular File Access

We've completely revamped how TrackChanges interacts with your Google Sheets files. Instead of requesting broad access to all your Google Drive files, we now use a more privacy-focused approach:

• File-Specific Access: You now explicitly choose which files to share with TrackChanges
• No Global Drive Access: Removed the requirement for full Drive read access
• User Control: Files are only accessible after your explicit selection through Google's picker interface

Technical Details

For the technically curious, we've moved from using broad scopes like drive.readonly to the more specific drive.file scope. This means:

• TrackChanges can only access files you specifically select
• No automatic access to your Drive contents
• Better alignment with the principle of least privilege

🎯 Improved Date Handling

We've also fixed some important issues with date handling in Excel files:

• Timezone Consistency: Fixed issues where dates were being interpreted differently across timezones
• Format Preservation: Better handling of date formats when comparing changes
• Accuracy: More reliable detection of date-related changes in your spreadsheets

🔄 Other Improvements

• UI Enhancements: Improved file selection interface with clearer success states
• Better Error Handling: More informative error messages when connecting to Google services
• Performance: Optimized file comparison operations

📋 For Existing Users

If you're already using TrackChanges with Google Sheets:

• Your existing connections will continue to work
• For new file connections, you'll experience the improved privacy-focused selection process
• No action required for existing tracked files
